Keystone-SDA’s Comprehensive Coverage of the 2019 Federal Elections in Switzerland

The news agency is already in the starting gates for a complete and multimedia coverage of one of the most exciting moments in politics: the Swiss Federal Elections.

Fast and reliable, from the regional offices anchored in the cantons to the national editorial offices in Berne to the photographers and the video team, all our forces are at work to guarantee comprehensive reporting on the federal elections.

Until election day on October 20, we will publish a series of reports on the current situation in the cantons and provide a perspective on possible winners and losers. This series will conclude with a national summary at the beginning of October.

In the coming week, the picture editors will be offering a whole series of archive pictures on various historical topics in connection with the federal elections.

Our video team will publish an explanatory video that will remind voters how to vote for their favorite candidates, how to panache or cumulate. Our video journalists will accompany the campaign until election day and beyond. In addition, infographics will be available before, during and after the elections.

Election Day

On October 20, the regional offices will deliver the first trends and results in both chambers from all cantons. We write news bulletins, lists of seats and mandates, but also summaries of cantonal and regional reactions. All reporting is provided via the basic service. In the online service, the most important cantonal reports are published with pictures.

At the national level, we will regularly provide summaries with trends, forecasts and results on the National Council and Council of States. At the same time, continuously updated tables on the distribution of seats in Parliament are prepared infographically and included in the various services.

Visually, the elections in the regions and in the Bundeshaus (Federal House of Parliament) will be accompanied by a team of photographers. The video journalists vwill contribute to the mood and provide short interviews with reactions. Analyses with a political scientist are also planned.

Live-Blog

For the first time, Keystone-SDA is offering a multimedia live blog for federal elections. This format makes it possible to present in a very compact form and more or less in real time all trends, projections, results and reactions, photos and content from social networks.

The live blog can be integrated via a special link and used by customers to enrich their own offerings.

Writing Robot «Lena»

On election Sunday Keystone-SDA will again use the writing robot Lena. From the data of the Federal Statistical Office, Lena will continuously generate reports on the results in the municipalities in German, French, Italian and Romansh. The short texts describe which parties have achieved the strongest results in the respective municipalities and draw attention to any anomalies.

The messages are published as an interactive map (datawrapper),  which customers can integrate into their own websites. In addition, we make the texts available in machine-readable form so that our customers can use them for their own applications. If customers have specific requests for automatically generated messages, they can contact the editorial team.

The Day After

Keystone-SDA will continue to report on the day after teh elections on October 21. Information graphics will be used to present statistics on the elected (women/men, young people, average age, etc.), but also to provide information on party strength, analyses of parliamentary composition and national and regional reactions. The development in the Council of States (second ballot) is also monitored.

The day after, the multimedia live blog will continue to follow all the ups and downs of the elections attentively and publish everything relevant.

Then What?

The news agency will keep the 2019 elections up to date with reactions and analyses until the second round of elections in the Council of States is completed and the new parliament is complete again.

At the same time, the focus will be on the discussions, demands and controversies surrounding the Federal Council elections on December 11, 2019. On this day, too, there will be fast, reliable multimedia reports on this election and its consequences.
