Significant Avalanche Danger in the Alps

Following massive snowfall and severe storms, the situation in the Swiss Alps remains critical. Although the highest danger level (5) was briefly reached in Valais earlier this week, significant avalanche danger persists across large parts of the high Alps, from Lower Valais to Graubünden.

Strong wind drifts have formed treacherous snow slabs that can trigger even with minimal weight. The impact on infrastructure is evident: numerous rail links and mountain passes, such as the route between Hospental and Realp in the canton of Uri, remain closed due to avalanche risk. Experts urge winter sports enthusiasts to exercise extreme caution and strongly advise against leaving secured slopes.

Ursula Andress Turns 90

A Swiss icon celebrates a milestone: Ursula Andress, the first "It-Girl" of the post-war era, was made immortal by a single scene. When she emerged from the sea in a white bikini in the 1962 film James Bond – 007 jagt Dr. No, she made cinematic history. This moment defined the "Bond Girl" for generations and solidified her status as a global style icon.

On March 19, the Bern-born actress, known affectionately as "Ursi National," celebrates her 90th birthday. We look back at the extraordinary life of a woman who conquered Hollywood without ever forgetting her Swiss roots. Join us in celebrating.
